Dear Doctor - Participate in the Survey on breast cancer " The American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates for breast cancer in the United States are for 2018. In 2018, an estimated 266,120 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. This includes 88060 cases of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is a non-invasive form of breast cancer. Additionally, it is estimated that 63,960 women will die from breast cancer this year. However, death rates have been decreasing since 1989 due largely to improvements in screening and treatment advances. It is estimated that there are 3,410,000 women alive today who have been diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their lives. Risk factors for developing breast cancer include: • being female and getting older – about two out of three invasive breast cancers are found in women who are 65 or older; • personal history of certain types of cancer – including ovarian cancer, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), and lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS); • family history of breast cancer – about 5 to 10% of invasive breast cancers are thought to be hereditary; • having dense breasts – denser breasts have more connective and glandular tissue than fatty tissue and can be more difficult to evaluate on a mammogram; • previous abnormal breast biopsy – an abnormal biopsy is one where atypical cells are found; Participate in Surveys "
