Ganglion cyst is also commonly known as a Baker's cyst. These ganglion cysts are basically small in size and contain thick jelly-like material. It has got an appearance of smooth lump under the skin. These are usually found attached to any joints like knee or wrist or in tendons and the fluid present inside is like a thickened synovial fluid. These cysts are common among the young or the middle aged ones and almost 3 people out of 10,000 are found to develop ganglion at the wrist or hand every year.

Regarding the occurrence of ganglion, it is not yet fully understood about the mechanism of their incidence, but it is suspected that any kind of trauma or mechanical stress or increase in production of hyaluronic acid can cause this. The two most common sites of their occurrence are on the back of the wrist and on the top of the foot next to the small joints. Size of the cysts vary from as small as a peanut to as big as a golf ball size.

Symptoms

The symptoms include swelling, soreness or throbbing pain while flexing the wrist, numbness in the areas of the nerve on getting compressed or affected may also occur. Weakness of the fingers can also be noticed, while the corresponding supplying artery gets compressed, restriction in the movements of the wrist may also occur at times even without pain.

Treatment

Ganglions can be treated by conventional treatment by splinting the affected joint, needle aspiration, or surgery but in such cases the chances of recurrence is also there. Further, removal of it may lead to permanent stiffness of the joint.

Apart from this homeopathic treatments can be applied as the treatment is quite efficient, cost-effective, safe, non-invasive and most importantly recurrence rate is also nil. Only, the treatment is required to be continued unless the patient is fully recovered. Drugs like Ruta graveolens, Causticum, Calcarea fluorica, sliciea, Natrum muriaticum and others are used for treatment.

Thus, ganglion cysts are basically harmless but can cause severe pain and discomfort. The cysts may automatically get cured with time or may require treatment. Conventional treatment can have recurral chances but homeopathy treatment can serve the best option of treatment due to its effectiveness and efficiency.
