Gastroesophageal Reflux in Infants: Symptoms and Treatment:
Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) in infants is a common condition where stomach contents flow back into the esophagus, leading to symptoms such as frequent vomiting, irritability during or after feedings, coughing, and poor feeding. Some infants may also experience poor weight gain and discomfort while lying down.
Treatment often involves lifestyle and feeding changes, such as smaller, more frequent
feedings, keeping the infant upright after meals, and thickening bottle feeds. In more severe cases, pediatricians may prescribe medications like proton pump inhibitors or H2 blockers to reduce stomach acid and alleviate symptoms. It's essential to monitor the infant’s growth and development to ensure effective management of GER.
