Description:

A warm welcome to all the medical professionals in this interesting session on A Gastro-Rheum Cross talk: Connections between the gut, joint, and spine.
The connection between the gut, joints, and spine highlights the intricate relationship between the gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal systems, often referred to as the gut-joint axis. Conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, can have significant rheumatologic manifestations, such as peripheral arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, and sacroiliitis. This overlap suggests a shared inflammatory pathway that links gut inflammation with joint and spine disorders.
Research has shown that gut microbiota plays a crucial role in this connection, influencing the immune system and potentially triggering systemic inflammation that affects joints and the spine. Dysbiosis, or imbalance in gut bacteria, has been implicated in the development and exacerbation of both IBD and spondyloarthritis. This understanding has led to a more integrated approach to treating patients with these conditions, focusing on both gastrointestinal and rheumatologic symptoms.
Therefore, get an overall knowledge of a gastro-rheum cross talk: connections between the gut, joint, and spine.
